For Easter my girlfriend got me an Edwin Jagger safety razor, a brush, bowl and some real deal shave lotion. I am hooked. I have never had such a good shave, even with 3-4-5 blade systems. And the blades for this are dead cheap (the handle wasnt though). Totally not car related, but just thought I would share. Well worth the money. And cheaper than buying 15 bucks worth of blades a month.
Also, not a sponsored post :)

I wear a permanent 5 o'clock shadow, because I do not enjoy shaving.
But that is an awesome looking shaver set!

My buddy has a safety razor and has let me use it before, they are awesome! I really need to pick one up soon.

Very fancy! I must agree i got a similar set up for Christmas (no fancy holder though *sad*) . The normal razors and electric ones gave me constant ingrown hairs. Everyone needs a safety razor. Old school, classy and works great

I shave every day because I have to, but if I they ever invent a way to permanently remove hair from a man's face, I'm signing up immediately. I HATE shaving.

yeah I love the weight of the razor. I hate shaving too, usually just swipe at my face while I am in the shower, but I enjoyed it for once

I love my badger brush + shaving soap. I've been meaning to get in on the safety razor game forever, but I just keep forgetting to actually buy one.

Bestest shave I ever had was done for me. I sat down and did nothing. I got two passes with a real manual razor. And then I got padded down with aftershave (I could choose my aftershave!)
And since it was in India, I was out 1.5 euro. Brilliant.

Feels awesome, because it leaves no itchiness, i remember that when i shaved i sometimes got ingrown hairs (as some other comments also mention) and that caused me intchiness and i hate that feeling.

for 1,5Euro I would let a shaky ex-crack addict shave me and put garbage juice on my face afterwards. You got a deal there

Welcome to the DE shaving club! Always happy to have another member. I use a cheap Lord L6 razor and some Voskhod blades. I don't know how anyone could buy cartridges. I can't afford it.

Ah genetics...when we were kids we all though we would get to that point, little did we know. I dont shave at all, just trim, maybe by the time I am 30 It'll be thick enough for a full blown bear rug..

My face is what I describe as semi-sensitive, and after ripping it to pieces with an electric razor (like my dad told me to) for years, I made the switch, and it's been one of the best things I've ever done. Then I decided to try the fancy cartridge razors, gave myself razor burn and a small cut. Decided not to spend all that money, and have been really happy with this setup for a few years now. Make sure you experiment with different blades and soaps and creams and aftershaves... It can get out of hand quickly, but cheaply. I'm looking forward to menthol season, where I add menthol to everything I use all summer long.

Yes, that's a nice classic one. Not quite as comfortable as others, but it is a good solid cream. A couple of favorites right now, though not the cheapest options, are below. I add menthol in the summer.

agreed. Cartridge Razor is how I learned initially and it resulted in massive razor burn and ingrowns. Electric didn't help either. Wet shave was the best thing I ever did.

My girlfriend snagged me a safety razor for Valentine's day...I don't shave often (I have the face of a high school freshman apparently) but love it when I do. Need to get a brush next...and stand...to complete the routine.

FEAR NOT! Geo. F. Trumper sells that in a bunch of varieties, each of which is nearly (but not quite) as good as the coconut. I've tried every single one. I really liked the "Limes" version as well, I'd rank it second best. The violet is pretty boss too, if you get bored of the Limes. (bet you never thought you'd see "violet" and "boss" in the same sentence)

I use a merkur handle. I belive it was around 40bux or so. It has a great feel.
Two things I recommend. Stay away from gillete branded blades, they are the russian blades and will cut you something fierce, I think they must have been designed to shave bears and not humans. Secondly dont get the tube version of the proraso, get the tub, it lasts much longer. 1year +. For blades I prefer the astra superior blades. They are I find more precise. Both on amazon. 100 blades of astra cost about 10-12bux shipped, and each blade will outlast a mach 3 blade two to one. Welcome to the world of having a real shave, and none of the bumpiness and roughness you get with the newer style shaving.

Nice, I have started using a safety razor as well. The shave is really nice, but what I find even better is as the beard grows back in (I'm way to lazy to shave every day) I don't get any kind of ingrown hairs or anything. I'm about to buy some more blades actually, a friend keyed me onto westcoastshaving.com they have some pretty nice sample packs.

That's a great looking set. If you have to shave every day this route is the best one. It feels like you just spent big money to shave while not actually loosing money. It's luxury and I will never go back. For what it's worth, I love the "sword" branded blades from Wilkinson and you an buy 200 of them from eBay for something like $40.

For blades I prefer the astra superior blades.
While I concede that they’re not branded as Gillette, Astras are made by Proctor & Gamble (Gillette’s parent company) in St Petersburg, Russia.

FWIW I do like Astra Superior Platinums and use them often.
